Have you ever felt that tug to homeschool, then immediately told yourself, I could never do that?
Maybe you worry about patience, time, or not being “qualified.”
I get it. I had the same swirl of thoughts. Here is what I’ve learned on the other side of the fear:
“God does not call the qualified. He qualifies the called.”
This week on the Faith Fueled Mompreneur Podcast, I am kicking off a new series for mom business owners who are homeschooling or seriously considering it. We are clearing out the fear and replacing it with practical truth you can live out right away.
The Moment That Made Me Rethink Everything
I heard a stat that stopped me in my tracks.
By the time an average child graduates high school, they will have spent more than 13,000 hours outside of parental influence.
Deuteronomy 6:6 to 7 calls us to impress God’s truth on our children when we sit at home, when we walk along the road, when we lie down, and when we get up. Education is not separate from life. It is woven into it.
That number helped me see why I felt so drawn to bring more of my kids’ formation back home.
The Big Idea
Your business skills are not a barrier. They are training. Planning, problem solving, adapting, learning on the fly. All of that transfers beautifully into home education.
Six Fears I Hear Most And The Truth That Answers Them
I am going to put words to the resistance and then anchor each one in truth. If one hits your heart, pause and pray through it.
1. I do not have enough patience
What fear says: You are too short tempered to teach your child.
What is true: Patience is not a personality trait. It is a fruit of the Spirit that grows with practice.
Try this: Keep lessons short, breathe and pray before you begin, celebrate tiny wins.
2. My child listens better to someone else
What fear says: A “real” teacher has more authority.
What is true: Influence flows from relationship. Connection creates cooperation.
Try this: Give ten minutes of one on one attention daily. Connection first, instruction second.
3. I will mess up my child
What fear says: One wrong curriculum will ruin everything.
What is true: Grace covers your gaps. Repentance and repair model God’s character.
Try this: Choose progress over perfection, adjust as you go, ask God for wisdom today, not forever.
4. I am not qualified without a teaching degree
What fear says: Credentials equal capability.
What is true: God equips those He calls. Love plus dedication can outwork any checklist.
Try this: Learn alongside your child, use solid resources and community, keep a simple framework.
5. I do not have time to run a business and homeschool
What fear says: Both will suffer unless you keep them in separate boxes.
What is true: Integration of faith, family, and work creates a richer, more purposeful life.
Try this: Time block a light homeschool rhythm, co work with your kids when it makes sense, protect a weekly planning hour.
6. What about socialization
What fear says: School is the only place kids learn to relate.
What is true: Values based community builds the strongest confidence and compassion.
Try this: Join an enrichment day or co op, serve at church, invite like minded families over, give your kids chances to interact with adults too.
What Our Days Can Actually Look Like
- A simple daily rhythm: Bible and read aloud, one math lesson, writing or narration, and a short science or history block. Light and consistent wins.
- Integrated work blocks: Kids do independent work while you answer emails, then everyone takes a movement break. Repeat once if needed.
- Weekly anchors: Library day, nature walk, board game night, or a family service project. Traditions make consistency easier.
One Small Step For This Week
Pick the resistance that feels loudest. Write a short truth statement you can speak out loud when fear shows up.
Example: When I feel unqualified, I will remember that God equips those He calls. He will show me the next right step.
