This 5 week class is perfect for beginners (Ages 10-17)  and does require a DSLR/Mirrorless camera (Which means the settings can be adjusted manually). Any camera brand will work, but I prefer Canon and recommend the Rebel line for beginners.

I am an ESA approved vendor, and ESA does cover cameras if you're in need of one. Class includes a printed workbook + video recordings for each lesson. Check out the curriculum overview below.

Your student will learn how to properly care for, handle and operate a sophisticated digital camera. They will learn how to properly expose each photo using  ISO, aperture and shutter speed.

Students will learn how to make their photos visually interesting to their viewer, using techniques such as perspective, natural framing, leading lines, and avoiding tangents.

Students will learn how to handle multiple lighting situations including the best time to shoot, and how to handle uneven lighting.  They will learn how to style and group objects together. Students will have the chance to bring items from home to photograph inside on a white poster board (creating flatlays) and outside styled on a stool/small table.

Lesson 4: Portrait Photography (Indoor/Outdoor)

Students will learn the basic portrait photography techniques including directing and posing, flattering lighting, choosing locations and setting up various scenes. Students will have the opportunity to practice photographing each other which is always an interesting experience on both sides.

Lesson 5: Portfolio Making Party

Students will send me their favorite photos from each week, and I'll have them printed for our last class. Scrapbook supplies will be provided for students to create their portfolios. Parents and siblings are invited to join us for cupcakes the last 30 minutes of class where everyone will share their portfolios with all of us.

Each lesson includes instruction + time to practice shooting

"I loved taking this class! My favorite part was taking outdoor pictures at the park nearby. It helped me become more comfortable with my camera in manual mode. I can't wait to start the advanced class."

My 12 year old daughter was interested in learning photography and inspired me to start offering classes for kids. I have my degree in Elementary Education but never formally went into teaching. I became a nanny while I was in College and ended up Homeschooling their son for Kindergarten. These nanny kids were my models as I got into photography and started my own business. 12 years and 2 kiddos later, I'm a homeschooling mama, running 2 businesses and love that I get to combine my love for educating kiddos and photography into one. I can't wait to teach your student and ignite a lifelong love for photography.
