Have you ever felt frazzled at the start of your workday, unsure of where to begin or what to focus on?
If so, you’re not alone. Many of us struggle with feeling overwhelmed and scattered, unsure if we’re dedicating our time and energy to the right tasks.
I’m excited to share a powerful approach that has transformed my workdays: starting each work block with a strategic business meeting with God. This practice has been incredibly beneficial for my business and my personal growth, and I believe it can be for you too.
Reflect on Your Workday
Before we dive into the details, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect. How do you feel when you start your workday? Are you often frazzled or unclear about your priorities? Does it sometimes seem like you’re working on tasks that don’t really matter?
I used to believe that success in business meant working hard, creating a plan, and sticking to it. However, as I’ve grown in my faith, I’ve realized that trying to do everything on my own only leads to frustration and overwhelm.
A few months ago, I read “Grace Over Grind” by Shea Bynes, a book that shifted my perspective on how to approach my work. Shea’s idea of having business meetings with God was a game-changer for me, and I’m excited to share it with you.
The Concept of Business Meetings with God
In “Grace Over Grind,” Shea emphasizes the importance of integrating grace into our business routine rather than relying solely on our own strength. She suggests starting each workday by giving the first part of your day to God, surrendering your to-do list, and being open to His guidance.
Here’s a summary of Shea’s recommendations:
- Give God the First of Your Workday: Spend 20 to 60 minutes at the beginning of your workday with God. This time is for surrendering your plans and seeking His direction.
- Journal and Reflect: Use this time to journal your thoughts and feelings, ask for guidance, and express gratitude.
- Align Your Thoughts with His Truth: If you encounter shame or fear, seek to understand the lies you’re believing and replace them with God’s truth.
- Practice Gratitude: Spend time focusing on what you’re grateful for to develop a positive mindset.
How to Implement Business Meetings with God
I started this routine on June 1st, and it has profoundly impacted my work. Here’s how I structure my business meetings:
- Journal for 10 Minutes: I set a timer and journal whatever comes to mind, whether it’s business-related or personal. This helps clear my mind and prepares me for the day.
- Express Gratitude for 5 Minutes: After journaling, I spend five minutes reflecting on what I’m thankful for. This exercise has revealed new aspects of gratitude I hadn’t noticed before.
- Reflect with Music for 5 Minutes: I listen to soothing Christian music and spend time in reflection. This helps me tune into God’s guidance and gain clarity.
Overcoming Challenges
Initially, I faced some challenges with this practice:
- Finding the Time: I worried that dedicating 20 to 60 minutes might be too much. Starting with 20 minutes felt more manageable and effective.
- Remembering to Do It: There were times I forgot to have my meeting. I learned to be flexible and not let missed meetings discourage me.
- Hearing from God: At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d hear from God. Over time, I’ve found that the more I practise, the clearer His guidance becomes.
The Impact on My Business
Implementing these meetings has reduced my sense of overwhelm. I feel more at peace, and I’ve gained clarity on what tasks are truly important. God has guided me to focus on what matters most, removing unnecessary burdens and replacing them with a sense of purpose and direction.
If you’re interested in starting your own business meetings with God, I encourage you to give it a try. It has been a transformative experience for me, and I hope it can be for you as well.

And as always, mama, I am here rooting for you and you are not alone on this journey.
