How to Optimize Your Limited Time & Maximize your Revenue as a Mompreneur

As a mompreneur, do you ever find yourself physically present with your kids but mentally lost in your business?

Or sitting at your desk, trying to work, but your mind keeps wandering to what’s happening at home?

You’re not alone. The struggle to be fully present – whether in our role as a mom or as a business owner – is real and challenging.

Today, I’m opening up about my own struggles and sharing strategies that have helped me stay grounded and present, no matter which hat I’m wearing.

The Mompreneur’s Dilemma

Let’s be honest: when you’re passionate about your business, it doesn’t feel like work. It’s exciting, it’s fulfilling, and sometimes, it’s all you can think about.

But as moms, we know our children need our presence – not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

Recently, I found myself in this exact dilemma. On days when I was supposed to be homeschooling my kids, all I could think about was work. The guilt was real, and I knew something had to change.

5 Strategies for Staying Present

After much reflection and trial-and-error, I’ve developed five strategies that have helped me stay present and focused, whether I’m in mom mode or business mode.

1. Start the Day Rooted

How you begin your day sets the tone for everything that follows.

For me, starting the day without grounding myself in my faith and journaling leaves me reactive, irritable, and not my best self.

Action Step: Create a morning routine that centers you. This might include prayer, meditation, journaling, or exercise.

The key is to start your day intentionally, rather than reactively.

2. Stick to Main Focuses for Each Day

Constantly switching between mom tasks and business tasks is mentally exhausting and makes it hard to be fully present in either role.

Action Step: Designate specific days for specific focuses. For example, Mondays might be for home tasks and meal planning, while Tuesdays are dedicated to business tasks. This allows for bigger chunks of focused time.

3. Give Yourself a Break When Your Brain is on Overload

Sometimes, trying to completely shut off the business part of your brain can backfire. When ideas are flowing, it’s okay to take a short break to get them out.

Action Step: Allow yourself a 10-minute brain dump when you’re feeling overwhelmed with ideas. Write everything down, knowing you can come back to it later.

4. Have Your Ideal Week to Fall Back On

Knowing when your next work block is scheduled can ease the anxiety of wanting to work when you’re supposed to be focused on your kids.

Action Step: Create an ideal week schedule that includes dedicated work blocks. When you’re tempted to switch to work mode during family time, remind yourself of when your next work block is scheduled.

5. Pray for Stillness and Contentment

This should be our first step, not our last resort. When you start to feel discontent with where you are, pause and re-center.

Action Step: Practice gratitude for your current moment. Acknowledge your feelings, but also remind yourself of the blessings in your present situation.

Applying These Strategies in Reverse

These strategies work both ways. If you find yourself unable to focus on work because you’re thinking about your kids, or wishing you could be building your business instead of working your corporate job, these same principles apply.

The key is to be intentionally present wherever you are.

Remember the Big Picture

Life is short, and our time with our children is fleeting. While building a business is important, we don’t want to look back with regret on missed opportunities to connect with our kids. When your children are around, make a conscious effort to engage with them – play with them, ask about their day, be fully present in those moments.

Your Action Plan

  1. Evaluate your current routine. Where do you struggle most with being present?
  2. Implement one of the strategies above this week. Start small – maybe with a 10-minute brain dump or by creating a rough draft of your ideal week.
  3. Practice gratitude daily. Each day, find one thing to be thankful for in whatever role you’re fulfilling that day.
  4. Give yourself grace. Being present is a practice, not a destination. You won’t be perfect, and that’s okay.

Remember, mama, you’re doing amazing things, even when you don’t realize it.

By striving to be present where your feet are, you’re not only building a successful business but also nurturing strong relationships with your children.

That’s the true definition of a successful mompreneur.

I’d love to hear from you!

Which of these strategies resonates most with you? How do you stay present in your daily life?

And remember, being present where your feet are leads to a more fulfilling (and sane) life as a mompreneur!

Thank you for spending part of your day with me.

And as always, mama, I am here rooting for you and you are not alone on this journey of balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship.
